Ways to find an existing business number

You need to provide your existing BN if you are adding CRA program accounts using Business Registration Online (BRO).

You would have received a BN if you registered with the CRA, incorporated federally or provincially. A BN may have also been created for your business, if you started a registration with BRO and your session timed out or ended unexpectedly.

Try the options below to help you find your BN.

  1. Check your records

The easiest way to find your BN is to look through your own records:

    • Letters or notices you received for your business
    • Confirmation details you may have saved or printed at the end of a registration session (for example, BRO session with the CRA)
  2. Sign in to your account

If you already added My Business Account to your CRA account, you can find your BN on the Welcome page when you sign in to your CRA account.

If you registered through your province or territory, you may also be able to find your BN by signing in to your provincial or territorial online account or portal.

  3. Check online business registries

You can search for your BN using online business registries, including the following:

    Corporations Canada

    For federally incorporated businesses.

    Ontario Business Registry (OBR)

For Ontario businesses and non-for-profit organizations. Information may be available 2 business days after registration.

Fees may apply for certain services.

    Canada's Business Registries

    Includes:

    • Federal corporations
    • Corporations and limited partnerships in certain provinces
  4. Contact the CRA

If you are still unable to find your BN using other options, you need to speak to a CRA agent to resolve any issues or complete your registration.

    For Canadian residents

When you call, the CRA may ask you to provide information you entered during registration to ensure it matches what the CRA has on file.
