If you're a victim of a scam, identity theft, or notice suspicious activity on your account, you should report it.

You should contact the CRA if you:

To confirm your identity, you may need your:

  • Trust account number
  • Trust name and name of trustee or representative
  • Complete address for the trust or trustee
  • Assessed trust tax return, notice of assessment or reassessment or other tax document for the trust, or be signed in to My Trust Account

Call the automated service

Enter your information using the automated service. Protections will be placed on your account once the CRA starts processing your claim.

CRA will call back within 15 business days.

You will then be prompted to answer a series of questions about the reason for your call.

Once your form has been processed, protections will be placed on your account.

CRA will call back within 14 business days after receiving your fax.

Send your declaration form by fax
  1. Fill out and print Form RC213 Identity theft and suspicious activity declaration form for individuals, business and trust
  2. Fax your completed form to:

Inform other authorities

Depending on what information has been taken or given to a scammer, you need to report the incident to the proper authorities and organizations.

For example, if your personal or financial information has been compromised or you suspect unauthorized activity on your CRA account, contact each of the following:

Stolen or misuse of your Social Insurance Number (SIN)

If you suspect or know someone else is using your Social Insurance Number (SIN), report it to Service Canada: 1-866-274-6627

Notify the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre

After you've reported a scam or any unauthorized changes to your CRA account, you should also notify the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. This information may help assist law enforcement with their investigations.

If someone attempted to scam you, but you did not give them any of your personal information, you should still report it.
